Like many other fangirls, I can't get enough of Lee Jong-suk, and I've seen almost every single one of his shows, even his single scene in Weight Lifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo. This was one of my most anticipated dramas for the year, and after the first episode, I'm feeling pangs of disappointment. I, of course, have no complaints about Jon-suk as Cha Eun-ho (what's not to love? Yes. I'm completely and unabashedly biased), but I found the central character, Lee Na-young as Kang Dan-i, to be flimsy protagonist. I sense that it could get better in the coming episodes. With so many good dramas out there, I like to spend my time looking for compelling stories with strong characters. I haven't given up on it yet, but episode one failed to wow or catch my interest so much that it almost fell into my "Save for Later" folder. Some positive notes: as with all Netflix Original branded dramas, the filming is impeccable. Additionally, sets and soundtrack (from what I saw) look high-end. I'm sensing a decent budget. Oh, and I did I mention it has Lee Jong-suk as the male lead?
As a synopsis, and remember, I've only watched one episode. Dan-i is a (single?) mom of one kiddo and is having (had?) a troubling marriage. Now, presumably broke, she is attempting to re-enter the workforce. Despite a once glittering advertising career, her resume is essentially a white sheet since she took the past few years off to raise her daughter. Side note: Boo to the people not willing to take a chance on her. Ageism and discrimination is unacceptable, and I hate to see it even in a fictional drama. I digress. She decides to upgrade her resume, and by upgrade, I mean lie to land a job at the same publishing firm as our beloved Lee Jong-suk. Not a spoiler, since it's in the title, but I'm sure other shenanigans and romance is afoot.
If you end up watching it before I do, leave me a comment and let me know your thoughts!
